Earthquake at 4:37am

April 18, 2008

There's nothing quite like being woken up, thinking you're about to die..

Early this morning I woke to the sound of rattling windows, doors, and furniture next to walls. A few seconds later (an eternity at 4:37am) the rattle became a really intense shake just before it stopped completely.

In 35 years of living in or near Nashville, TN, I don't recall ever having any earthquakes, but we have had a few tornados.. so I jumped out of bed thinking it was a tornado. I looked out the window to see if the neighbor's houses and trees were still there and they were. That's when I started realizing it was something else. All the cats were in the hallway outside our bedroom door waiting for us. I guess they needed some reassurance they were going to be okay. I turned on the TV to see if there was any sort of storm warning for our area, but there was nothing. After a while I was able to calm down enough to go back to bed. But sleep didn't come. I laid there for nearly an hour before I could fall asleep.

I can't say I've previously experienced anything quite so unnearving as this.

Now I'm just waiting for all the "big-church" preachers to come out and say this is a sign from god, that people have been sinning too much and stuff. Just wait..

It felt like the house was vibrating, near the end it got very intense.

I was scared, yes.

I don't live with my brothers or sisters. We're all married and have our own houses, families, etc. My children, on the other hand, did sleep through it.

Tell Caroline I'm married, sorry.
