August 7, 2006 A new MacOS X install has no locate database. If you don't want to wait for the weekly cron to run, do this: ln -s /usr/libexec/locate.updatedb /usr/bin/updatedb updatedb Now the 'locate' command will actually return something!

problem: ask a geek what time it is?
answer: tells you how a watch works.
i just wanted to know how to find updatedb so i could use it. everyone but you wanted to explain the history and gory details unix updatedb command. geesh.
