My local news channel is an utter embarrasment |
October 15, 2008
I'm local to Nashville, TN and to stay current with regional news and events I read newschannel5.com news via their RSS feed. Naturally I use the best news reader in the world.
The problem with newschannel5.com is they do not appear to have any editors on the payroll. In addition to the apparent lack of qualified editorial staff, their writing software does not appear to contain anything like a spell checker. They consistently post grammatically incorrect news stories, often with glaring misspellings. A 5th grader wouldn't make these kinds of mistakes.
And to make matters worse their RSS feed has duplicates. It seems they change just enough of the URL so my newsreader doesn't know it's a duplicate. Every mistake they make, I see it twice, and every non-news item they post, I see it twice. I've contacted them multiple times about the duplicates. I guess their M$ loving, ASP programmers don't have or don't know how to use something like a unique() function.
So today I found a missing word in an article. It said "whose was not released". I posted a comment noting the missing word "name". A few hours later, in came my duplicate feed entry. I clicked to see if the mistake had been corrected. It had but they added a whole new mistake. Complete idiots.

This is why the local unaffiliated news stations are the worst... that is, unless you judge them based on the comical excuse for "news"
