Nine Inch Nails - The Slip, Sucks

May 5, 2008

Digg.com informed me NIN had decided to give away, as in "gratis", their latest album, "The Slip". W00h00, right? Wrong.

Down in the comments section on Digg, someone noted how it's very likely Lars Ulrich is going to be pissed about the album being free of charge. But after listening to the album twice today, I assure you this, much like all NIN albums, is complete crap. I'm not sure what it is, but it's not music.

I've tried to like NIN over the years, really I have. The thing is, what they make just isn't very good. The drum beats never change, and the guitar riffs are very "low-skill". Low-skill, as in I'm only a hobby guitarist and I assure you I can play anything NIN has ever written, easily.

As far as originality, there's not much of that either. The second song on the album has the exact same drumbeat as Ministry's 1992 release, "Just One Fix".

And I'm not a drummer, but I own a 5-piece kit. Without a doubt I can easily play any drumbeat NIN has ever published. I'm not saying I'm all that, don't get me wrong.. but if someone claims to be a musician and writes albums then I would only assume it would be more that I can do in my garage.

Good thing the album is free.. I'd be pissed if I paid money for it before hearing it.

Lars Ulrich has zero worries. I'd rather pay for Metallica than get NIN for free.

Even though i liked the previous albums by NIN, i thought that this new album was a piece of sh**.

My main reason is that lyrically, this album sounds like it was written by a two year old rhyming.

Seriously, whenever i listen to the album i get this image of Trent just asking himself, "what rhymes with such and such..."

No skill required, take your fans for granted.

A big middle finger.

F*** you too.
